TheWorldinLight Photographic Gallery

Photography is a visual medium. And so, TheWorldinLight logo takes the shape of the human eye. TheWorldinLight photos come from around the world, and so our logo uses the earth as the eye itself. TheWorldinLight Photographic Gallery was started by Robert Stephens. Robert is a retired Research Scientist with nearly 40 published scientific articles and the holder of 5 patents. Prior to starting TheWorldinLight, Robert conducted research on nanochemical hydrogen storage mechanisms to support fuel cell vehicle development as well as research in renewable energies. He is also the inventor of "Smog Dog", a system for remotely measuring the pollution from moving vehicles that was commercially produced and sold by Hughes Aircraft Corporation in the 1990's as an alternative to mandatory annual vehicle testing. Now as the photographer for TheWorldinLight, his gallery specializes in prints of flowers, nature, and landscapes. He also has an extensive collection of photographs of people and cultures and abstract images that have been acquired from 30 countries around the world. He still actively travels internationally and regularly adds new images to his gallery.

Web Changes

This is where I'll announce the most recent additions to my gallery. If you've visited this site before and want to know what's changed since, take a look on this page first.

October 30, 2009:

Today I uploaded photos of the Incan ruins of Pisac, Peru as well as photos of the Winay Wayna Incan Ruins, both taken during a 2006 trip to Peru.

October 12, 2009: Some of my special interest photos are now for sale via Google Checkout. These photos can be found in:
World War II Aircraft in Flight
Butterflies
Flowers
Junkyard Cars and Trucks
Praying Mantises
Poison Dart and Other Exotic Frogs

October 1, 2009:I've just added a new photo page for each of two US National Parks: Saguaro National Park in Arizona, and also Chiracahua National Monument, also in Arizona.

September 2, 2009:Still catching up with addition of photos from previous trips. The latest addition - photos of the rock formations of The Toadstools of southern Utah.

August 21, 2009:I've just returned from an all-day visit to the Frederik Meijer Gardens and Sculpture Park in Grand Rapids, MI. The Sculpture Park is loaded with interesting sculptures by famous sculptors from around the world - claimed to be the finest collection in the midwest. The grounds are nicely landscaped with a stream, waterfalls, and wetlands that attract wildlife. The Gardens have interesting collections of orchids, cacti, tropical plants, and carnivorous plants.

August 14, 2009:I've just added some photos of the Detroit Riverwalk to the Detroit page.

August 5, 2009:After returning from a quick tour of several Canadian cities: Ottawa, Montreal, and Quebec, photo pages of each of these cities were made available for viewing at the Quebec City page, the Ottawa, Canada page, and the Montreal, Canada page. I hope you enjoy browsing these photos of Canada.

July 18, 2009: New photos were added to the Oregon Photos page and the Washington Photos page.

July 12, 2009: Photos of Ohio, including photos of Hocking Hills State Park, the Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge, and Schedel Arboretum and Gardens.

July 6, 2009: just a few photos of the Amazon River Basin and Iquitos, Peru. These can be seen on the Amazon River page.

June 21, 2009: Updated the New Zealand page with additional photos.

June 19, 2009: Way overdue - I have created the site: Roraima Tepui of Venezuela. I climbed this mountain in 2006. The first men to climb it were part of a National Geographic Expedition in the early 1900's. Tepuis are unusual mountains that rise nearly vertically from the surrounding rolling grasslands of the northern parts of South America. The sheer vertical cliffs make the peaks nearly totally inaccessible and isolated. Consequently, the flora and fauna atop these tepuis have evolved separately from their surroundings. It's estimated that up to 50% of species found there are found nowhere else on earth. Just a tad more - Roraima Tepui and the National Geographic expedition was the basis for a Sir Arthur Conan Doyle novel entitled "The Lost World".

Also long overdue are the photos of the Angkor Temples of Cambodia. These photos were taken in 2003 with a Minolta X-700 film camera. The film was ruined during processing in Cambodia. The decision to process there was intended to avoid multiple exposures to airport x-ray machines during a multi-country trip. The film negatives were subsequently scanned and processed via Photoshop as best I could. I've also uploaded a more general site on Cambodia.

June 18, 2009: I've started a page I'm calling Residential Wildlife. This page contains photos of an assortment of insects, flowers, and birds I see in the garden around my residential home in Michigan.

I returned home in March after living in Peru for several months. I've added photos of Arequipa and the The Colca Canyon - possibly the deepest canyon in the world. As part of my visit to the Colca Canyon, I took many photos of Andean Condors at Cruz del Condor at the edge of the Colca Canyon in Peru. When visiting the Colca Canyon, I spent a couple of days in Cabanaconde, Peru, and enjoyed the friendliness of these hard-working people of Quechuan descent. I also visited the city of Chivay, Peru. Following my visit to the Colca Canyon, I traveled to Cusco, and from there went to the beautiful and famous Incan ruins of Machu Picchu in the Andes Mountains. These sites are meant to give potential visitors an idea of what there is to see and do in these places.

I am also adding a slideshow option for the viewing of the large images on the thumbnails pages. This is being done gradually, on a page-by-page basis. Photos can now be viewed by using the cursor rollover function, clicking an image to open the larger version and then stepping through large images one at a time, or using this slideshow option to view the large images displayed on that page. Enjoy!

I am gradually expanding my gallery of photos, so please come back often. I hope you enjoy the new photos on TheWorldinLight Photographic Gallery.
