this is a photo of the California Milkweed, normally a rather uninteresting plant that becomes quite attractive when blooming, if only one takes the time to look and appreciate the purple-colored blossoms and furry buds.

This is a photo of a California Milkweed growing in Yosemite Valley, California. I find that even the most ordinary looking plants can look remarkably beautiful when blooming - but sometimes we have to look close to appreciate it, and that's where macro photography can help. Many milkweed plants are very poisonous. Monarch butterflies lay their eggs on the undersides of some milkweed plants and the caterpillars eat these making themselves poisonous as a protective mechanism against predators.
