One of the popular hikes at Zion National Park is the one through the narrows of the Virgin River, shown in this photograph. Even during the driest portion of the summer, a hiker here will spend about half of his or her time wading in the river. But the beauty of the sheer cliff walls of red and orange stone, sometimes covered in black desert varnish, lures people back again and again. |
