Dunnottar Castle has one of the most spectacular settings of all medieval Scottish Castles. It rests on a high outcropping of ground, surrounded on most sides by steep cliffs that drop into the North Sea. A small strip of land connects it to the mainland. It is also one of the best preserved of the ruined castles, making a visit there like a visit back in time to medieval ages. Historically, it is famous for having been the location where the Scottish crown jewels were hidden from the English army.
