The photos on this page were taken during a month-long trip through France in September of 2011. We traveled from Paris to Annecy, and on from there in a clockwise direction throughout France, spending a week at a time in several locations from which we explored the surrounding villages. We spent a week each in Riquewihr, Aix En Provence, and Carcassonne. Many of the villages surrounding these cities still have some or much of the medieval fortifications that date back to the 13th and 14th century. All of these villages are beautiful, interesting, clean and safe and a sheer pleasure to visit. The landscape throughout France is also dotted with ancient castles. Many of these stained glass windows are hundreds of years old.
