Istanbul, Turkey sits on both shores of the Bosphorus Strait, one of the busiest seaports in the world. The
Strait separates the continents of Europe and Asia, so part of the city is in Asia, part in Europe, and the
city reflects the blends of two cultures. Istanbul is rich in ancient artifacts and structures from both its
Christian and Muslim past. It is one of the world's top travel destinations. A shopping experience in the Grand Bazaar
should not be missed. A boat tour of
the Strait is an (almost) must-do as well. Photos on this page include the Blue Mosque, the Bosphorus Strait, Ayasofya, Rumilihisa Fortress,
Topkapi Palace, Obelisk of Theodosius, the Grand Bazaar, and the Column of Constantine.
The Bosphorous Strait is one of the busiest seaways in the world, carrying more shipping traffic than either the
Suez or Panama Canals. Reportedly, 55-million tons of oil pass through the strait each year.
