This page has photos of the 13th century medieval castles of Lastours, France. These castles successfully defended the religious sect known as Cathars from the relentless attacks of Simon de Montfort, during the Albagensian Crusades that were ordered by Pope Innocent III against these people that coexisted peacefully with the Catholics. This page has photos of the medieval castles: Tour Regine, Cabaret, Quertinheux, and Surdespine. These castles are now in ruins, but a walk through these spark the imagination of what life must have been like during medieval days and nights. See a compilation of European castle photos here.
