Photos of Nepal and the Himalaya Mountains

In the Himalayas of Nepal, it's possible to trek from village to village and see people living under conditions that have remained virtually unchanged for centuries. The photos here are from a teahouse trek to and beyond Langtang, Nepal to Kyangin Gompa and the Langshisha glacier at roughly 5,200 meters elevation in the Himalaya Mountains. On this page there are also photographs of people in Kathmandu. Larger versions of these photos can be viewed by using a mouse rollover or by using the Slideshow below. Syabru, Nepal
Syabru, Nepal is a beautiful little village in the Himalaya Mountains.




Yak in Himalayas
Grazing at nearly 5,000 meters elevation, this yak was photographed near Kyangin Gompa in the Himalaya Mountains of Nepal.




Nepalese Prayer Wall
High in the Himalaya Mountains of Nepal, in an area known as Langtang, the buddhists have built prayer walls made of intricately carved stones. These prayer walls sometimes stretch for perhaps a hundred meters.

Funeral Pyres at Pasupathinath
The dead are cremated at the Pasupathinath Temple in Kathmandu and the remains placed in the Bagmati River.




Chitwan Elephant
Elephants can be ridden through the Chitwan Jungle to search for the wildlife there. It is perhaps the only animal that the Rhino fears. Rhinos are easily seen in Chitwan.

Beyond Langtang and Kyangin Gumpa, it's possible to hike to the Langshisha Glacier at about 5200 meters elevation in the Himalaya Mountains.




Hotel With Solar Water Heater
Virtually all of the hotels in the villages throughout the Himalaya Mountains have solar heated water tanks. It is ironic that these backward villages are, in this way, more advanced than the vast majority of cities, towns, and villages in the US.
