Termes, France is another of the many small towns that can be easily visited from nearby Carcassonne or Lagrasse in the Languedoc region of southern France. The town's main claim to fame is the castle that sits upon the high hill overlooking the town. This page has photos of the ancient ruins of Termes Castle, the homes and streets of Termes, and the old Termes bridge over the Le Sou River. These photos of Termes can be viewed using the Slideshow below.

The village of Termes lies in a stunning location in southern France. The drive to reach it winds over narrow, twisty roads through a deep, rocky gorge. Upon arrival, the road passes through cave-like tunnels in the wall of the gorge opening to the little village.

The town is best known for the Termes castle that overlooks the village high above on steep mountainsides. Tours are available, however, it is most scenic from below. The castle itself has some surviving walls, but they are in separate sections, so disjointed that, up close, there isn't the feeling of being in a castle at all. And yet, it is a castle of historic importance in the Catholic Crusade to eliminate the Cathars.

Below the castle deep in the gorge, the village of Termes is very attractive. The old stone homes are quite beautiful and well preserved and maintained, making a walk through it quite pleasant. The village church is ancient, constructed in the 12th century.
