Wildlife Photos

These wildlife photos were taken in Bolivia, Venezuela, and the US and Canada. The anteater photos, as well as the photos of the enormous anaconda were taken in their natural habitat in the Los Llanos region of Venezuela. The anaconda photos, in particular, were a challenge - acquired only after hours of dangerously wading swamps before we spotted two that had obviously recently eaten - and both were within about fifty meters of each other. The photo of the piranha was taken in the Rio Yacuma region of Bolivia. The butterfly photos were taken at the Butterfly House in the Hortus Botanicus (Botanical Gardens) of Amsterdam and the Butterfly Conservatory of Niagara Falls in Ontario, Canada. Many of the frog photos were taken at the Chorus of Colors exhibition, which is touring the USA. I visited that exhibition when it was at Chicago and Manhattan. I waded swamps in Los Llanos, Venezuela for hours looking for the famous anaconda. We found two, coincidentally spaced only perhaps fifty meters apart from each other. Thankfully, they both had very recently eaten, probably within hours. The largest of the two - both of which were enormous - was perhaps 6-7 meters long.

It's sheer speculation what this anaconda had eaten. Perhaps it was a Capabara, perhaps a Caiman. In any case, the curves and lumps in its enormously stretched belly was something that had been alive very shortly before we encountered this snake.
