Worldwide Wildlife Photos

These wildlife photos were taken in Bolivia, Venezuela, and the US and Canada. The anteater photos, as well as the photos of the enormous anaconda were taken in their natural habitat in the Los Llanos region of Venezuela. The anaconda photos, in particular, were a challenge - acquired only after hours of dangerously wading swamps before we spotted two that had obviously recently eaten - and both were within about fifty meters of each other. The photo of the piranha was taken in the Rio Yacuma region of Bolivia. The butterfly photos were taken at the Butterfly House in the Hortus Botanicus (Botanical Gardens) of Amsterdam and the Butterfly Conservatory of Niagara Falls in Ontario, Canada.

Waxy Monkey Frog #8430
The Waxy Monkey Frog is native to desert regions of South America.

Syrphid Fly #7407
This Syrphid Fly is probably not even a full quarter-inch long. See more insect photos at Insects.

Squirrel Monkeys
These wild squirrel monkeys were along the shore of a tributary to the Amazon River in Peru.

Damselfly #4650
This is a photo of a damselfly. One of the features that distinguish a damselfly from a dragonfly is the distance between the eyes. Damselfly eyes are typically further apart than the diameter of one eye. See more insect photos at Insects.

Los Llanos, Venezuela is home to a highly diverse population of wild animals. The area is full of Caiman, Capabara, Anteaters, Anaconda and monkeys. Birdwatchers from around the world come here because of the number of different species of birds here.

Honey Bee #4610
The Honey Bee collects pollen from the flowers it visits and deposits it on its legs for storage while it moves from plant to plant. Currently, there is a bee "plague" of sorts that is sweeping through bee colonies of North America and it is responsible for wiping out almost half of all bee colonies.

Piranha
This is a close-up photograph of the face, mouth, and teeth of the infamous Piranha.
